No new Oil refineries have been built in the United States since 1976. Yet Oil Company profits have never been greater.
With prices soaring, oil companies now have all the profits and incentives they need to build new refineries yet they don’t.
Why should they? Building new refineries, although good for America and the American consumer would most likely increase supply, thereby decreasing profits.
There is absolutely NO incentive whatsoever for Exxon Mobil to build any new refining capacity. In any other business, profits are normally used to increase production. But that only happens if there are free markets. The only way to bring about free and open markets is to have competition. That is why ExxonMobil must be broken up.
